If you’ve ever played a round of Mahjong without counters and struggled keeping tab of the scores, this one’s for you.
We’ve built a free score tracker that covers three styles in one app: Hong Kong New Style, Taiwanese and Karachi Style.. It is live right now at: Score Tracker
What It Does
Switch between styles using the tabs at the top. Each one keeps its own scores, so you can move between them freely without losing progress in any.
Hong Kong New Style
You tell it who won, how many faan (3 to 13, or up to your table’s limit), and whether it was by discard or self-draw. It calculates the exact chip payments automatically using the standard HK New Style payment table.
Taiwanese Style
Enter the point value for the hand, pick the winner, and choose discard or self-draw. By discard, only the discarder pays. By self-draw, everyone pays the winner.
Karachi Style
This one’s the most detailed. Each wind round (East, South, West, North) has its own scoring:
- East, South, North rounds use fixed base point values (editable if your table plays variations), with East always paying and receiving double of what the other three seats do.
- West round uses the full manual Cantonese-style calculation — enter your melds, pairs, and special hand features, and it computes the final score using the standard doubling formula.
- The opening hand of the East round (Goulash) uses the same manual calculator as the West round, available as a toggle.
- Flower and season wins are accounted for, including the rule for holding both your own flower and your own season.
No more mental arithmetic mid-game, regardless of which style you’re playing.
How to Use It
On your phone (Android):
1. Open Chrome and go to mahjongmates.com/scorer
2. Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top right
3. Select “Add to Home Screen”
4. It installs like an app — no App Store needed
On desktop: just open the link in any browser.

We’re in the process of listing the scorer on the Google Play Store so Android users can install it directly without needing a browser. We’ll announce when it’s live.
In the meantime, the “Add to Home Screen” method works just as well and gets you the same experience.
A Note for Mahjong Mates Students
If you’re currently taking classes with us, this tracker is calibrated to the exact payment table in our HK New Style course materials. The faan values, chip amounts, and discard vs self-draw logic all match what you’ve learned in class.
